MY HERO by Kenneth Showalter

05/11/2008

My hero is an unknown hero. A man who ran into danger not caring for his own safety. He did it for the safety of another. Why? Because he has the courage to help people in need and wants to make a difference.

This man who to me is unknown has a lot of courage. The kind of bravery it takes to risk your own life for some one else. While at the same time you know you might not make it out alive, or see life again. But does not care that he will run into a burning building.

The second reason he is my hero is he likes to help people in need. He helps when they are sick, stuck in a car smashed to hell, or in a burning building. Even if you just need a shoulder to cry on. He does not care what the problem is or how dangerous it is.  He is there till he can’t be there anymore. He is a firefighter.

The third reason he wants to make a difference. The way he makes a difference is one to be proud of. He doses it by saving lives. Even if it means to risk his own life. He also does it by saving peoples houses and their property, and by reaching out to make a difference in the community and making it a safer place.

This is why he is my hero and the reason I want to be a firefighter. This man and every other man or women who are firefighters are heroes. They are heroes because they all are willing to risk there life for a stranger. So due to the fact that he will put his life on the line for someone he does not even know. People say why someone would do something like that. Well the reason why is he and they have courage and they want to help people to make a difference in the lives of every one who needs help not caring how dangerous.

Goody's Note: This short essay was written by 15 year old Kenneth Showalter. He has participated in the Pinellas Park Fire Explorer's program and is looking to make firefighting his career choice.

This program is in jeapordy of losing it's funding... please contact your county officials and ask them to reconsider this thought. We need to encourage the youth of today to become solid citizens through community involvment & training.

You can see Kenneth's myspace page and follow his friend's links to Pinellas Park Fire Post 945.

Thanks, Goody
